The love for music is present in every culture. Everyone loves music, in whatever form they choose. Although the music that each culture has created varies, it is a universal commonality that unites everyone from across the planet, past or present. Music is an epitome of an evolution that has occurred ever since early times when men and women still wore loin cloths. Today, music developed throughout the ages has become part of our lives. Music can soothe, uplift our spirits, touch our emotions or make our heads bounce off the walls. It has been fully developed that so many varieties have been created. These varieties are more popularly known as genres.

Filipino music reflects the development and varieties of music. From ancient times, before the Spaniards colonized the Philippines, music existed among the Filipino ethnic groups. When many different cultures of the East and West landed on this Asian archipelago, Filipino music became a mixture of different sounds. This myriad of sounds is apparent in the many genres that comprise music in the Philippines. From classical to pop and from mellow to rock, the Philippines has them all. The country is divided into various sub-cultures found in different regions. Original Pilipino Music is found in the country’s capital and is made up of originally composed English and Tagalog songs. While “bisrock” is music made by artists in Visayan regions, where the language used is Cebuano Visayan. The Filipinos appreciate music made by foreign artists as well. Philippine radio and TV shows would air songs from both local and foreign musicians.
