The Philippines is composed of different cultural groups. There are the Tagalogs, the Visayans, the Ilonggos, the Kapampangans and many more. Each of these cultural groups uses different languages. This cultural and linguistic diversity of the Philippines manifests in their music, from OPM (Original Pilipino Music) of the Tagalog to “Bisrock” of the Visayans. OPM has been popularized by Tagalogs located in the country’s capital. As a music genre made famous by the nation’s capital, OPM artists became household names around the country. OPM musicians were very helpful in shaping the nation’s music industry. Examples of musicians in this musical movement are singer Lea Salonga, music director Ryan Cayabyab and singer/songwriter Ogie Alcasid. All of which have achieved international recognition. Due to the passage of time, however, OPM now refers to any type of original music created by Filipinos, regardless of the location of the artist or composer.

Although OPM now means music created generally by Filipinos, records created by other cultural groups are not categorised under OPM. “Bisrock” is one of the most famous music movements other than OPM. “Bisrock” has mostly been created and made popular by the locals of Cebu, one of the major cities in the country. There are already several musicians from Cebu that made it big in the whole country even before “bisrock” came to be, such as Pilita Corrales and Urbandub. Cebu’s music scene was already at large even in the 1980s. The term “bisrock” was recently coined to refer to the Cebu rock music industry. The Philippines may contain an assortment of music genres and musicians. This diversity only shows how flexible Filipinos are with music.

You can listen to tracks from your favourite Filipino musicians anywhere – at home, at work, in the car or even strolling in the park by using a portable media player. Playing music inside your car can be a good way to let time pass while you are stuck in a traffic jam, waiting for the light to turn green. Doing just about nothing whilst in a snarl-up can be very boring. And what better way to break boredom than to listen to music. Yet, how can you enjoy music if your car stereo is missing? It’s devastatingly true, but the crime rate is rising these days. It would be best to keep your vehicle and any equipment inside it safe from theft.

Securely lock the doors and windows when leaving your car, regardless how long you are leaving it. When parking your car at home, always use the garage if you have one. Make sure both the car and the garage are locked. If you do not have a garage, leave your car in a well-lit area. When looking for parking space, look for police-approved parking lots as much as possible – look for the sign that says “Secure Car Park” accreditation. Do not keep valuables inside and empty the glove box to show there is nothing inside it. As for your car keys, never leave them inside your vehicle and keep them in a safe place, even when inside your home so that it cannot be stolen in case your house is burgled. Further, write your car registration number on items like your precious car stereo.

Selling a home during winter time may be the worst time of the year to sell property. The lawn is brown, the weather is usually bad and you have less time to show off the place during daytime. And waiting for spring takes a long time. There still are ways to sell a house in winter though. First, always keep the walkway and driveway clear of snow so that the home looks well-maintained. If you live far from the house you are selling, have someone or a service to shovel the place for you. Turn the thermostat down to a warmer temperature to make the place feel welcoming. And if you have a gas fireplace, turn it on to add ambiance. Also, show the property when daylight is highest and clean all the light fixtures.

The windows are one of the important things to maintain because the strong southern light might reveal grime on the windows. Having outdoor and indoor lights on would give prospective buyers who drive past the impression that the house is welcoming and comfortable. If you do not live in the place, use timers for turning the lights on and off. Another way to give the home a comfortable air is playing soft music in the background when you are showing it to prospect buyers. Tune the radio to the local classical station and turn the volume down to that they will hear it quietly in the background. You can also use Filipino music, which offers a wide array of sounds and genres — some of which can soothe and uplift your spirit. After all, that is one of the reasons why we create music.

Health is a must have for everyone. We are not able to do our daily activities without a fit body for how can you go to work or school if you are sickly. We all know the common advice of eating healthy and exercising to have a healthy body. In addition to that, mental and emotional wellness is needed for holistic health. You may not be able to think and do your daily tasks properly if you are all stressed out and worry about so many things.

Relieving stress is a good way to achieve mental and emotional well-being. There are many ways to rid yourself of stress. Do the things that make you relax. Some people find music very soothing. Filipino music is composed of so many genres, from slow to jazz and classical to R n’ B. Take your pick and Philippine music may be able to relieve you of your worries. Other means for relaxing are meditation and alternative medicine that some people believe to be very effective. Examples of these are Traditional Chinese medicine and yoga. These practices promote an overall state of well-being and have something to do with the union of mind and body. Other things that can help achieve peace of mind may sound amusing, but can prove to be true. Some people, for example, fix their eyes at a fish tank filled with aquarium fish swimming around. Others would play with babies and little kids and they forget their worries for some time.
