It is but common and normal to Filipinos their love for music. It is evident even during pre-Hispanic era. They make ethnic rhythm as a form of ritual. Filipinos have traditional music telling of the day-to-day Filipino life like some old folk songs. However, as time goes on and after Spanish regime and the rule of the West, it deeply created an impact especially in the field of music. West inspired the touch of music Filipinos have, like rock and roll, hip-hop and pop. That is why, the kind of music Philippines has is a mixture of European, American and indigenous sound. Original Pilipino Music or OPM used to be only exclusive for Filipino pop compositions especially those that were in ballad form like from Ryan Cayabyab, Rey Valera, Ogie Alcasid and etc. But in recent time, as music develops, it's not limited to the kind of genre before. OPM nowadays is regarded to any compositions made by Filipinos regardless of the genre, may it be tagalong, English or other dialect.

The music scene in the Philippines indeed changes; from slow to fast, from soothing to boisterous, where rock music became a flavour to Filipino compositors and musicians. However, if you try to compare the compositions of before and now, there is a difference. Blame it to the aging world. If you try to look at the lyrics and theme of today’s compositions, it’s not as cryptic as before. Compositions before used to be so nationalistic, rebellious, tackled socio-political issues and tackled environmental issues. Common theme nowadays is love, but unlike before it’s not as deep as it was, blame it again to the aging world. Some are just revised from the original ones with the own version and sound of the artist. It doesn’t matter anyway.
